Coffee and Such

I'm growing impatient with my attempts to make a good cup of coffee. It was not always so. I used to truly enjoy my coffee, but now it does not compare favorably with the stuff I buy at Starbucks or Dunn Bros.

I buy what I believe to be good coffee beans. My coffee maker is a decent Braun drip style. This morning, I used filtered water, thinking the taste of Dallas water after many, many days of 100+ temperatures might be the culprit. To be sure, filtered water improved the flavor, but my coffee does not stand up to the competition. I suppose you could say I am disgruntled with my coffee-making capabilities these days. You'd never say I am gruntled without my coffee-making capabilities though, would you?

If it weren't so damn hot (it was 82 degrees before 7:00 am), I'd walk to Starbucks to get a replacement for this morning's fix. But it's not that important and my knees would curse me for the trip. Speaking of my 'fix,' I find it odd that I have stopped requiring a cup of coffee every morning. To be sure, I enjoy it when I do, but it's no longer absolutely necessary. There are many, many days (frequently, consecutive days) that I do not drink coffee. A year ago, that would have been unimaginable. I do not know why, either. Maybe I just got lazy and discovered I could survive without my morning cup?

It's time to explore the day and what it holds. I may write more later today; I shall not write less.

In Canada, I was in a Starbuck's store that had their Barista espresso machine on sale. It lists in the states for $399, and this looked to be a $100 reduction. We've had one, or its precursor, for at least 10 years, and it's a workhorse. Makes great espresso, great steam power.
