A colored bull terrier is this year's winner of the Westminster dog show. I
looked at a photo...it's buckskin colored, with white markings. I'm used to seeing all-white bull terriers. I'm not sure what I find so interesting about watching the Westminster dog show on television, but I do find it interesting. I did not watch it this year, but in years past my wife and I have watched bits and pieces of it. I'm even more surprised that she finds it interesting. We don't have pets, we aren't into doggie snobbery, and we have no 'dog in the hunt,' but we do find the competition interesting to watch.
It was sad to hear that another dog from the show, a whippet, got out of its cage at JFK airport. As far as I know, the dog is still missing.
Speaking of pets, I found the following quote from an
article from the Sydney Morning News website to be fascinating:
A collaborative research paper delivered at the International Conference on Human-Animal Interactions in Glasgow last October said pet owners in Australia and Germany made 15 per cent fewer visits to a doctor each year than those who don't own a pet. In China the difference was about 20 per cent.
