Meeting a Man About a Tractor

This blog is not created by a guy with a one-track mind. Check out the posts I've made so far...I may have adult ADD.

Today, I'm writing about my day tomorrow. I'm leaving the house about 7:30 a.m. to drive to a farm about 50 miles north-northwest of where I live to take a look at a Kubota B7100 tractor, a 4 wheel-drive diesel garden tractor with a 16 HP engine and a 13 HP PTO. (I'm learning the lingo.)

I don't desperately need a tractor. But I could use one on the acre or so I own a few hours south of here, particulary as I get closer to the decision to build a house there.

So, tomorrow I'm going to meet a man about a tractor. I do, indeed, want to work the land. What is it with me, anyway?

It's genetics. Your Dad was a farmer, early in life, actually, and later (througout his life) at heart. He was only able to grow vegetable gardens and peach trees later in life. After he and Mom moved to Houston, he really wanted to buy a place (farm) in the country. Mom would not hear of it. So, he didn't. That is really sad to me, because after she retired, Mom became a couch potato, watching T.V. all the time. After they moved to Houston, she didn't even play bridge any more, which is the only entertainment she enjoyed after she retired, except for the trip to California to visit Libba... and that was after Dad died. So, seems to me it wouldn't really make any difference to her where they lived, and if Dad would have been happier in the country, then she should have allowed that. Anyway, it's in your genes... wanting to live in the country and work the soil... so, go with it... you'll be much happier when you do. I realize now you can do it only on a part-time basis, but, when you retire, believe me, you'll be happy to be "in the country".
